Every local claim in these seawall guides links to a primary source with its publisher and check date. Here is how that works.

Where the facts come from

We start with original records: Florida statutes and rules, county and city codes, NOAA and FEMA data, FDEP reports and public bid documents. Each fact is stored with its publisher, link, effective date and limits. The current set was verified on October 28, 2026.

For example, the rule that a Bay County dock or seawall needs a permit for any new construction or structural repair comes straight from the county's permit requirements. Bay County permit requirements Claims we cannot confirm on a primary source stay off the pages until they are confirmed.

Storm and tide figures keep their reference

A water level means little without its reference. We report each reading with its gauge and datum, such as feet above mean higher high water (MHHW) at a named NOAA station.

For example, NHC reported the Panama City Beach gauge at 5.4 feet above MHHW during Hurricane Isaias, and the final NWS report lists a 5.6-foot peak. NHC Isaias update NWS Tallahassee Isaias report We use the final figure and will recheck it against NHC's full storm report. The storm guide lists each event with its source.

Prices stay in their original scope

We do not invent local price ranges. Cost figures carry their year, scope, unit and place, and a public bid stays labeled as a public bid.

For example, Bay County's 2026 bid to replace the Ira Hutchinson Park lake wall drew 17 priced bids. Bay County bid tabulation That job is a cantilevered vinyl wall built from shore, with no tiebacks. Bay County ITB 26-55 scope It is not a stand-in for a tied-back canal bulkhead or a Gulf-front wall, and the cost guide says so where its numbers appear.

The budget calculator's vinyl range divides the middle of those named bids by about 630 feet of new wall, rounded. Steel, concrete and repair ranges come from a 2023 national guide and say so in the result. Bay County ITB 26-55 and addenda

Photos, maps and diagrams

Waterfront scenes set the look of the site. They do not show completed projects, partner work or a specific property. Diagrams explain how a seawall works. Maps help you find places; they are not surveys, flood determinations or service boundaries.

How to ask for a correction

If you spot an error, send the page, the statement and the record that supports a change through the contact page.

  • We check the claim against its original source.
  • If the record has changed, we update the fact and the page date.
  • If a source cannot be confirmed, the claim comes off the page.
